About this Talent:
ABSTRACT: This action research used quasi-experimental one group pretest – posttest design which aimed to determine the effectiveness of face-to-face remedial classes as a strategy in improving the Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School’s Grade 8 students’ problem-solving skills during the school year 2022-2023. Seven (7) Grade 8 students were purposively chosen based on the objective of the study. Using the pretest and posttest instrument adapted from the Nivera, (2018) and the GANOSA (Given, Asked, Numbers, Operations, Solutions, Answer) approach. The findings of the study revealedthat the problem solving skills of the respondents before the face to face remediation strategy was 5.24 (needs improvement) which did not passed the passing score of the total test items; the performance of the respondents after the remediation was 27 (expert) which means that the exposure of face to face remediation improves the performance of the respondents in terms of problem- solving skills; and the difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of respondents before and after of the remediation is significant because there was an improvement to the problem solving- skills when using face to face remediation. The research concludes that face-to-face remediation has been shown to improve students' ability to solve mathematical problems. This recommends using the research action plan utilizing the face-to-face remediation.
