I proofread enough texts in my past. And it is my main source of income. I enjoy proofreading, it enhance my skills and also it helps me work well. I may not be perfect in dealing with it, but I prove myself enough in this field. Proofreading is just like you enjoy reading other people’s work for mistakes. Proofreading might be one of my better skills, but you also need to know how to cut out extra words, make sure the words say what’s meant, fact-find to ensure numbers (or claims) are accurate, and sometimes completely rewrite articles written by others. We probably deal with the actual technical components of a page. The amount of space before and after each line or letter, the number of spaces between text and page numbers, and far more detail than a copy editor enjoys. I was hired for one position because it asked for extra skills, and I wrote, “I love to proofread!” When the position was described, it was mainly for copy editing, but I had the unique ability (at least at the time) to see mispelled words on a page hovering in black bold print. Since then, I’ve learned it was synesthesia, but I was quite good in my employment days.
