ETHICS  OF PAD.

Introduction.

Physician Assisted Death (PAD) is understood as a ‘situation in which “a physician knowingly and intentionally provides a person with the knowledge or means required to end their own life, including counselling about lethal dosage of drugs, prescribing such lethal doses or supplying the drugs.”(Landry et al.). I am of the view that PAD is unjust and morally unethical.

Patients who ask for the assistance of doctors to end their lives are usually terminally ill patients who have no cure or solution to their condition or they are very old persons who feel they have achieved all they need to achieve in life. The latter fell they would burden their caretakers with unnecessary healthcare bills when they fall sick. In order to alleviate their pain, guilt or loneliness they ask doctors to help end their lives. In this light, PAD does not present any ethical issues. As the patients believe they have the decision to end their own lives.

Ethical Laws.

However, this act violates the doctors “Hippocratic oath of doing no harm.” (Derse et al.)  It puts the integrity of medicine a healing profession in a diminishing state. The act will paint the picture of incapable doctors to other patients. Everyone has the right to life as a natural right and therefore it is a crime to end another person’s life. Suicide thoughts are brought about by negative thoughts towards life and traumas and no one should be in support of a person ending his/her life. These facts highlight the ethical and moral damages of PAD act.
