Luanda is an Arabic word and it means 'trench'. One of the battles fought by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was called the battle of Khandaq. This battle is called Khandaq because Muslims dug a trench round the city of Madinah to prevent the enemies from entering it.
After the battle of Uhud, the people of Makkah promised that they would fight the Muslim at Badr in the following year. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) went together with his companion to the plain of Badr the following year but the people of Makkah did not come.
The Jews who lived in Madinah hated the Muslims. They became friends of the people of Makkah. Some Jews went to Makkah and told the leaders of Quraish that they would cooperate with them to fight the Muslims. With this assurance from the Jews, the people of Makkah started preparations for another battle with Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions. They sought and got the cooperation of other tribes who also hated the Muslims.
