Pneumonia is a condition referring to inflammation of the different parts of the lungs of a human being. Its is caused by bacteria, parasites,virus or can be aspirational type. Signs and sumptoms may include; hotness of the body, cough, difficulty in breathing, running nose, chest tightness, tachycardia, tachypnoea, decreased saturations below 93% of oxygen at room air, crepitations on auscultations, lower chest wall in drawing and inability to feed.
It is diagnosed clinically but some of the lab works that would aid in further management include fullhaemogram, chest xray, blood cultures. Management depends on the severity of the infection which can range from oral medication to intraveinous ones. Children are encouraged to jave pneumococcal vaccination to help prevent occurence of the above symptoms.
