"Two-Wheelers Import Data in Nepal- FY 2078/79 and FY 2079/90
Kathmandu. Due to the ban on the import of two-wheelers above
150 cc, lack of liquidity in the market, and a sharp drop in demand,
the import of motorcycles has decreased by 53.33%.
According to the data of the customs department, only 58 thousand
898 units of motorcycles and scooters were imported in the four
months of the fiscal year 2079/80 (from July to the end of Kartik).
During the same period of the previous year, 1 lakh 25 thousand
908 units of two-wheelers were imported.
With the import ban imposed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce,
and Supply, the way to import fully prepared motorcycles above 150
cc was closed. Because only Bajaj and TVS got the benefit of it,
other brands have not been able to bring motorcycles above 150 cc
to Nepal. During this period, Bajaj and TVS brought 19,724 units of
unassembled motorcycles and scooters to Nepal.
Due to the low demand for motorcycles in the market and the ban
on the import of new motorcycles, the amount spent on imports has
also decreased by 52 percent. In the 4 months of the previous
financial year, motorcycles and scooters worth 12 billion 2479
million 2 thousand rupees were imported. This year, only 5 billion 87
crores 79 lakh 2 thousand worth of imports have been imported.
Due to the decline in import prices, the government has also lost
revenue by 51.16 percent. In the four months of the current financial
year, 6 billion 5 billion 96 lakh 46 thousand rupees have been
collected at the customs point. Whereas in the first four months of
the previous year, 12 billion 40 crores 73 lakh 66 thousand rupees
were collected.
Businessmen say that due to the import ban imposed by the
government and the decrease in market demand, the market is not
improving yet. Even now, it is said that importers have a large stock
of small CC motorcycles and scooters.

However, the companies selling motorcycles above 150 cc have
had to close their showrooms due to the complete import ban. In
particular, brands like Royal Enfield, Jawa, Crossfire, BMW, and CF
Mato have started from furloughing workers to closing showrooms
to cut costs.
If we look at the data for the month of October only, the import of
motorcycles above 250 cc is zero. Not only 250 cc, but the import
figures of all motorcycles in the month of Kartik are very weak."
Hope you will appreciate it. Thank you
